Miss Summer's favorite EL Design Principle is "Success and Failure". She tries to teach her kindergarteners that making mistakes is great and that it helps us learn: there is no shame in failing! She also helps them celebrate when someone is successful. She loves to read and try to crochet and knit. She spends a lot of time with her big family, – especially her nieces and nephews. She taught pre-school for 4 years before moving up to Kindergarten. Miss Summer graduated from University of Utah with a Bachelor's degree in Early Child Education.

Missy Manzanares

Miss Missy relates best to the EL Design Principle "The Natural World". Along with her husband and her two girls, she loves exploring the great outdoors by hiking, camping, and kayaking. Their favorite hikes are those that lead to ancient ruins, petroglyphs, Indian living quarters, dinosaur findings and anything like that. They are a very adventurous family. Her hobbies include making custom craft items, drawing, and coaching her girls' softball teams. One of her favorite places to go is beautiful Yellowstone National Park.

Mrs. Smith's favorite EL Design Principle is “Diversity and Inclusion,” because she likes to see students developing their problem-solving skills and being respectful of each other. Mrs. Smith is originally from Finland, and she also lived in Japan before moving to Utah in 2005. She loves reading, drawing, baking, and spending time with her son and husband. Mrs. Smith has a master’s degree from the University of Helsinki in Finland.

Ms. Deb loves "littles." When her three children left elementary school, she missed working with students, so she returned to assist in preschool and now first grade. Anything pertaining to her family is what makes her happy. She often says that negativity takes too much work and can always find the silver lining.

Melanie Speirs

Ms. Melanie' favorite EL Design Principle is "Service and Compassion". She is passionate about service and feels that service and compassion are not only what society is severely lacking, but also what takes a person from good to amazing. She feels that children should be taught these principles early in life. She loves to read, absolutely loves the beach, and is teaching herself to crochet. She has three of her own children and is a very busy basketball, dance and baseball mom. Ms. Melanie graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Governors University.

She loves how we teach our students to become better members of society and show them how much service is needed in our community and how service can be fun and enjoyable. She loves to play a variety of sports, hiking, swimming and being with her family.

Ms. Holfeltz's favorite EL Design Principle is “Success and Failure”. She believes that all students need to be successful if they are to build the confidence and capacity to take risks and meet increasingly difficult challenges. She also believes that it is important for students to learn from their mistakes, to persevere when things are hard, and to learn to turn failure into opportunities. Her favorite hobby is drawing and her favorite subject is Math. Her favorite places to go are the mountains and the beach. She loves to go hiking, camping, and fishing with her family. She also loves to go swimming with her little boy during summer break and working in her yard. She has worked with students from kindergarten – 9th grade before she came to Entheos. Ms. Holfeltz obtained her degree in Elementary Education through Western Governors University and she almost has her Master’s in Math.

Mrs. Durfee's favorite EL Design Principle is “The Having of Wonderful Ideas”. She loves to celebrate and learn from the wonderful and creative ideas of children. She grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and has traveled outside of the US to Korea, England, France and Italy, and would love to visit Japan or Australia. She loves teaching second grade, reading, cooking, the smells of lavender and eucalyptus, and going on nature walks. Her all time favorite food is sushi, and her love for succulent gardens is very great. Mrs. Durfee graduated from Brigham Young University.

Mrs. Mendisabal's favorite EL Design Principle is “Service and Compassion”. She believes that when a person looks outside of themselves to serve others, their heart opens and their capacity to love grows. She knows that helping others builds a brighter community. She is passionate about teaching and learning, and sees it is as a life-long pursuit. Mrs. Mendisabal was born and raised in New Zealand but has lived in Utah for the past 18 years. Her favorite hobby is reading, and she looks for any opportunity she can to get lost within the pages of a good book. Her favorite authors are JK Rowling and Jane Austen. Mrs. Mendisabal attended Auckland University and is currently enrolled at Western Governors University.

She has had the pleasure of seeing the students grow in confidence and knowledge, as they take responsibility for their own learning: fear leaves, self-confidence grows, and the students blossom. She loves to crochet, read books, and has a Black Belt in Kung Fu.

After teaching students at the University of Puerto Rico to be teachers for over twenty-five years, Mrs. Hocking decided to retire early and become an elementary teacher herself. She feels it has been the best decision she made in her processional career and a very emotional one. She has three children and three grandchildren that are the loves of her life. She loves to play the piano, do arts and crafts, and play on the beach and in the snow.
