LAND Trust

The School LAND (Learning And Nurturing Development) Trust program brings tens of millions of dollars annually to academic programs in public schools across Utah. The funds are generated from federally owned school trust lands that include national parks, wildlife reserve areas, mining/farming areas as well as many other lands throughout Utah. Funds from these lands are invested and the revenue is distributed to public schools throughout Utah. Often, these funds are the only discretionary funds that schools receive.

Each public school in Utah elects a school community council – Charter schools have Charter Trust Land Councils. In past years the Entheos governing board served as the Charter Trust LAND Council. For the 2018-2019 school year and beyond, the governing board established a process for an election of a Charter Trust Land Council. A Charter Trust Land Council has been established for each campus (Kearns and Magna) that will make decisions about the federal School LAND Trust funds. The council is an advisory board and all of its actions and plans are overseen by the Entheos Board of Directors. Charter Trust Land Council members are volunteers who care about the success of students and overall school improvement. A parent serves as the chair of the Charter Trust Land Council and the council is comprised of at least a two-parent majority of parents with children from the applicable school. Notices are sent out regarding the formation of the council and parents are encouraged to participate on the committee. If more parents are interested than the number of open positions an election is held and parents within the school community will vote to determine who will represent them on the School LAND Trust Council. Entheos thanks the council volunteers for their time and dedication to our school.

The council identifies the school’s greatest academic needs and recommends an action plan for using the funds. The council also reports to the Entheos Board of Directors and the school community on the results after implementation of the plan. The council may meet 2-3 times per year and the meetings are posted in advance per the Open Meetings Act. The plan decided upon by the Charter Trust LAND Council is reviewed and approved by the charter governing board during a public board meeting. The plan is then submitted to the state for final approval.

Past LAND Trust Funds

In past years Entheos Academy has allocated School LAND Trust funds to support student proficiency and growth in math, language arts, science, art and character development. Funds in the 2018-2019 school year – totaling $61,611.00 for the Kearns campus and $51,040.00 for the Magna campus – were used to support the continuation of that goal. School LAND trust funds have also been used to improve access to technology for our students by providing items such as chromebooks, laptops, computers, software and online curriculum.

Charter Trust LAND Council Rules of Order and Procedures

In past school years the Entheos governing board served as the Charter Trust LAND Council. This was allowable because the makeup of the board included a two-parent member majority. For the 2018-2019 school year and beyond, the governing board established a process for an election of a Charter Trust LAND Council that will have a two-parent member majority of children currently attending the school. The chair will be a parent member.

Nomination and elections for the council will be held each year in the fall. If there are not enough candidates, an election will not be held. Council members serve for 2 years. The Charter Trust LAND Council follows the Roberts Rules of Order which can be found here. If you are interested in becoming a part of the Charter Trust LAND Council in the future, please contact one of the council members or check back here for nomination or volunteer filing information.

The School Plan was publicized to the community in the following ways:

  • Via the School Website
  • Made available to parents in the School’s Front Office

Entheos Academy looks forward to continuing our partnership with the Utah School LAND Trust and is extremely grateful for the funds that have enabled us to further the goals and objectives outlined in our annual School LAND Trust plans.
